Salivating Finale For Racing And Sports

Latest News Comments Off

A record number of competitors will be battling for line, class and outright honours at Eastern Creek this weekend.

Whilst it is the final round of the State Championship victory in most classes are still in contention as well as the outright champion.

A full field of nearly 40 Racing and Sports Cars will be lining up on dummy grid with many of the drivers musing their chances for serious trophy honours on Saturday morning.

Others will be out to prove their prowess in front of the Foxtel Speed channel television cameras.

Class one is for racing cars up to 1600cc including Formula 2s. At this stage Greg Muddle heads the points table, but can be outgunned by Andrew Wlodek who is snapping at his heels. Watch out for the sleek black no 25 to see if he can realize his ambition and stave ff the opposition.

In class two the fast and powerful 2 litre racers will be doing battle. Class leader Robert Choon is fighting off Barry Elbourne and his father David, who also has a theoretical chance of taking out the championship. Its not often you get family battles at this level.

Class three is for the dynamic single seater centre mounted sports cars and Adam Proctor seems to be unassailable in his Ralt although if he suffers a disastrous weekend Michael Shaw in his West has a chance of class championship honours

The most hotly contested class is class four for 2 seater Sports Cars, dominated by Radical. In the lead currently is Nick Kelly but the rules dictate that you have to discard your 3 worst races of the season and that brings in the highly consistent Phil Anseline, Peter Opie and Greg Smith. Any of these can take out the class trophy.

As for the big one- the outright champion- that’s open to at least six contenders but currently is tied between Robert Choon and Nick Kelly and we will keeping them posted on their chances as the weekend progresses.

This is truly the Grand Finale for Racing and Sports, as they will split into two separate categories for the 2011 championship. So make sure you follow the action at the Creek on Saturday and Sunday. Failing that tune into the new Foxtel channel on November 18 th and catch the action there.
